Hi there! My name is Laura Andrews and I am your new Exercise Specialist. What does that mean for you? Well, it means that I have worked really hard to learn everything I can about how exercise can help us to conquer all of the little (and big) things that life throws our way.
I was born in Orlando, Florida. I am the oldest of three girls. I lived in Florida until I enlisted in the United States Army at age 21. I spent over nine years as an active duty Soldier. I’ve done tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. As I came upon my 10 year anniversary in the Army, I made the choice to leave and finish my degree. I chose to finish that degree in Exercise Science at Ball State University (Go Cards).
I met my husband, Gabriel, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at a school that I attended while I was still in the Army. He is from Winchester, Indiana and serves still as a member of the Indiana National Guard. When I left my last military duty station in Washington state, I moved to Indiana to marry and start a family with Gabe. We have a beautifully stubborn and independent three year-old named Rayner.
My favorite food is a good chicken pesto pasta. My favorite snack is pickled asparagus. My favorite outdoor activity is kayaking. My favorite indoor activity is knitting, crocheting, or spinning yarn on my spinning wheel. My absolute favorite exercise is a slow and steady jog on an early autumn morning. Last but not least, my favorite Bible verse is Job 38:12, which says, “In your days, have you commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place…” It reminds me that the sun will rise again. No matter how much we accomplish, or fail to accomplish, we are never so important that it will deter the sun from rising on us again.
We have a lot of great ideas, and I am very excited to be a new member of your family here. Please come see me in the fitness center. I look forward to meeting all of you.
